Children's Liturgy

Children are part of the People of God and the parish seeks to be a place of welcome for children and their parents. To facilitate this a special 'Liturgy of the Word' adapted for children is available at each of the 3 Sunday Masses that occur each weekend in the parish:

"Sometimes, moreover, if the place itself and the nature of the community permit, it will be appropriate to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, including a homily, with the children in a separate, but not too distant, room. Then, before the Eucharistic Liturgy begins, the children are led to the place where the adults have meanwhile celebrated their own Liturgy of the Word."

From the Directory of Masses with Children, 1973

In addition, the Bishops of England and Wales have prepared the following guidelines:

Liturgy of The Word with Children

Two or three DBS cleared adults take the children out to a nearby room where they are presented with the readings of the day in a form that is suitable to them. The Children's Liturgy consists of proclamation of the Word of God, reflection on that Word, followed by prayers of intercession. Thus the Liturgy with the children is not the same as Sunday School, nor a containment exercise, but rather aims to be a true act of worship that leads to the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Children’s Liturgy is offered on a rota basis by volunteers. If you would like to volunteer your services please contact the office for further information. All volunteers are suject to a safeguarding check before they can assist.
